Randy Beattie 

Randy Beattie, President and CEO

Randy Beattie is the founder and President and CEO of PFM Capital Inc.  The predecessor partnership, Prairie Financial Management, was established in 1989 and over ten years developed into a full range practice specializing in corporate finance, business planning, feasibility assessment, self employment training and venture capital fund management.  Mr. Beattie is a Certified Management Consultant and has extensive experience in private equity management.  Mr. Beattie is President and CEO of PFM Fund Operations Inc., the general partner of Prairie Ventures Limited Partnership, an institutional venture capital fund; Apex Investment GP Inc., the general partner of Apex Investment Limited Partnership; Saskatchewan Entrepreneurial Fund Joint Venture, and; SaskWorks Venture Fund.

As a representative of the Funds, Mr. Beattie holds several directorships in investee companies, including Koenders Windmills Inc., Prairie Hog Production Inc., the general partner of Prairie Hog Production Limited Partnership, Crusader Drilling Corp., Visima Holdings Inc., Westcon Equipment & Rentals Ltd., Pro Metal Industries Ltd. and Hospitality Network Canada Inc. Mr. Beattie is also a director of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Venture Capital Association.

 
Rob Duguid

Rob Duguid, VP Investments

Rob Duguid was born in Moose Jaw, and is a founding partner of SaskWorks Venture Fund and a partner in PFM Capital Inc. Mr. Duguid holds the position of Vice President, Investments, for PFM Capital Inc., Apex Investment Fund, and Saskatchewan Entrepreneurial Fund. He is Vice President, Investments, and Chief Financial Officer for the general partner of Prairie Ventures Fund Limited Partnership. Mr. Duguid is Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary of SaskWorks Venture Fund Inc.

From 2000 to 2003, Mr. Duguid was a partner with Crown Capital Partners Inc.  From 1994 to 2000, Mr. Duguid was Vice President, Investments with the Saskatchewan Government Growth Fund Management Corporation ("SGGF").  SGGF owned a group of immigrant investor funds, with over $155 million under management, making it at the time one of the largest of such funds in Canada.  Prior to joining SGGF, Mr. Duguid was Vice-President, Finance and Investments with the International Centre for Agricultural Science and Technology ("ICAST").  Mr. Duguid held this position from 1992 to 1994.  ICAST’s mandate was to assist Canada’s agrifood industry in the commercialization of new products and technology.  Before joining ICAST in 1992, Mr. Duguid was a Manager with Peat Marwick Stevenson and Kellogg Management Consultants, now known as KPMG.  Mr. Duguid was responsible for the Regina practice of this national management consultancy at the time of his departure in 1992.  During his six years at KPMG and predecessor firms, Mr. Duguid conducted business planning, market strategy and research, economic impact, and strategic planning assignments for clients located across Canada, as well as in the United States and Europe.  Mr. Duguid graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (distinction) from the University of Regina.

Chris Selness

Chris Selness, VP Investments - SaskWorks

Chris Selness is contracted to PFM Venture Capital Operations Inc., and serves as the Vice-President of Investments for the SaskWorks Venture Fund.  Prior to October 1, 2004, Mr. Selness was a partner of Crown Capital Partners Inc., a venture capital management firm.  Mr. Selness was an executive of Crown Life Insurance Company from 1996 to 2002, holding senior positions in the Group Insurance Division, Investments, and Human Resources, executing several successful turnarounds.  Mr. Selness also spent twelve months working for The Canada Life Assurance Company, assisting that company with the integration of Crown Life’s group insurance operations.  Mr. Selness began his career in the financial services industry in Toronto in 1987 as a currency trader with the Investment Banking division of the Royal Bank and subsequently moved to Merrill Lynch Canada’s Mergers and Acquisitions unit.  In 1990 Mr. Selness joined Abitibi-Price Inc. (now Abitibi-Consolidated) and had responsibility for developing the organization’s $3 billion dollar currency/interest rate risk management programs, and was involved in the organization’s corporate development activities.  Mr. Selness holds a Chartered Financial Analyst designation, as well as an MBA from University of British Columbia, and a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Saskatchewan.

Mr. Selness holds several directorships in investee companies, including Hesterman Technical Services Inc., Prairie Hog Production Inc. and Community Electric Ltd.

 
Mike Merth

Mike Merth, CFO

Mike Merth is originally from Regina. He holds Bachelor of Administration and Bachelor of Science degrees from the University of Regina, and holds both Chartered Accountant (CA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designations. Before joining PFM Capital, Mike worked for a private accounting and financial services company established to provide investment management and administrative services for venture capital and private equity funds.

 
Janet Zakresky

Janet Zakresky, Controller

Janet Zakresky joined PFM Capital Inc. in 2010 as Controller.  She received a Bachelor of Commerce (Distinction) from the University of Saskatchewan, with a major in accounting.  Janet also earned a Bachelor of Education (Distinction) from the University of Regina, with a major in Business Education.  In addition to her education, she has a diverse business background with experience in both public and private sectors, which served her well in her financial consulting business.

 
René Benoit

René Benoit, Senior Investment Manager

René joined PFM Capital Inc. in 2008. Prior to joining PFM, René worked in the Saskatchewan Credit Union system, including Concentra Financial in the Corporate Finance area. His current role includes the origination, underwriting and managing of private equity and debt investments. René obtained a Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Regina and also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

René is currently active on the Board of Directors of the CFA Society of Saskatchewan including the role of Membership Committee Chair.

 
Jeff Linner

Jeff Linner, Senior Investment Manager

Jeff joined PFM in 2009 and is responsible for originating, due diligence, underwriting and managing private debt and equity investments. Prior to joining PFM, he worked at a private investment management company for six years where he was a Vice-President.  In this role, he gained significant experience working on transactions across Canada in a number of industries. 

Jeff was raised in Regina and graduated from the University of Regina with a Bachelor of Administration (Great Distinction) with a focus on finance. He also holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and the Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation. Jeff has previously been involved on the Board of Directors of the CFA Society of Saskatchewan including the role of President in 2009.

He currently holds several directorships in investee companies including Hospitality Network Canada Inc., Sky Harbour Developments and ProMetal Industries.

 
Jason Moser

Jason Moser, Senior Investment Manager

Jason joined PFM in 2008 and is responsible for originating, due diligence, underwriting, and managing private debt and equity investments.  Prior to joining PFM, he worked in equity research at Raymond James where he was involved in the valuation of conventional oil and gas income trusts. Jason has also spent time on the trading desk at EPCOR Merchant & Capital and with the Canadian Forces.

Jason grew up in Weyburn and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Commerce (Great Distinction).  He has subsequently obtained his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and the Chartered Business Valuator (CBV) designation.  Jason resides in Regina with his wife and three children and is involved in a number of community organizations including the Queen City Kinsmen.

He currently holds several directorships in investee companies including Fire Sky Energy, Plains Environmental, and Stampede Drilling.
 
Johanna Salloum

Johanna Salloum, Senior Investment Manager

Johanna joined the investment team at PFM in 2007. Her responsibilities include the due diligence, underwriting, and management of private equity and debt investments. She also holds a number of directorship positions for various investee companies.

Johanna grew up in Regina and received her Bachelor of Business Administration (Great Distinction) from the University of Regina majoring in Finance and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.

 

Victoria Swan

Victoria Swan, Investor Relations

Victoria joined the PFM team  upon graduation from Simon Fraser University. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a second major in Communications and a concentration in Marketing.

Victoria is responsible for the firm's communications, marketing and investor relations functions and oversees PFM's Big Hug Fund initiatives.

 
Eric Clark

Eric Clark, Investor Relations and Investments

Eric is a member of the investor relations and investment teams at PFM. Eric holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Regina and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder.

At PFM, Eric's responsibilities include investor relations, compliance, governance and portfolio management. Eric plays an integral role in managing relationships with PFM's key stakeholders, strengthening the firm's investor base while sourcing high-quality investment opportunities for its portfolios with a special focus on natural resource investment.

 

Lynda Bachiu, Office Manager

Lynda Bachiu has joined the PFM team as the new Office Manager.  Lynda was raised and completed her education in Ontario before moving to Regina in 1988.  Lynda has previous administrative experience in the securities, banking and legal sectors.  Her eye for detail and organizational skills are an asset to the office.

Lynda is responsible for supporting the management and boards of PFM Capital, SaskWorks, PVLP, SEF, and APEX.

 
Marga Bos

Marga Bos, Accountant

Marga was born and raised in The Netherlands in the province of Groningen. In May of 2007 she and her family immigrated to Canada where they made a home in Balgonie SK. Marga has a college degree in accounting and has previous work experience as an accounting assistant and as a client services representative.

 
Wayne Steadman

Wayne Steadman, Director

Wayne Steadman is a long-standing Saskatchewan businessman. Wayne is a director of SaskWorks Venture Fund Inc. and PFM Capital Inc. Wayne has been president of Gene's Ltd. for over thirty years, a company that held the KFC franchise from 1958 to 1991. Gene's is now a real estate development company and holds the rights to the Boston Pizza franchise in Saskatchewan as well as investments in several Boston Pizza restaurants in Ontario. Wayne brings an abundance of operational experience in a number of different business sectors.
